Why We Do This - My Story
My father started his business over 30 years ago.
It fed our family, anchored us to our community, and employed almost a hundred people over the years.
Then, in his early sixties, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Our family had to make urgent, high-stakes decisions about the future of the business.
We were fortunate.
My brother could step in because we grew up inside that business, and we understood it.
Most families aren’t that lucky.
Around that time, as people reached out with support, they told me stories I’d never noticed before.
Stories of good businesses that simply closed when the founder’s health failed, because there was no one who knew how to continue the work or prepare the business for sale.
Not because those businesses lacked value.
But because they lacked guidance.
That realisation shifted something in me. It's unlocked a passion with in.
I saw the quiet tragedy of solid, community-serving businesses disappearing…
Taking jobs, livelihoods, and decades of impact with them, because no one had helped the owner transition well.
